Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP)

Para 15.5, NEP 2020
 The 4-year integrated B.Ed. will be a dual-major holistic bachelor's degree in Education as well as a specialised subject such as a language, history, music, mathematics, computer science, chemistry, economics, art, physical education, etc. The program aims at preparing teachers for Foundational, Preparatory, Middle and Secondary stages as per the new school structure of NEP2020. It will ensure that outstanding students enter the teaching profession. A student undergoing this course will be grounded in Indian values, languages, knowledge, ethos, tribal tradition and also well versed in latest advances in education and pedagogy. This course caters to the need of 21st Century skills.

Highlights of Consultative Meeting

A Consultative Meet was organized by NCTE on 26th May 2023 in physical mode with the Vice Chancellor/Director/Principal and one Key Functionary of the participating HEIs/TEIs. This consultative meet provided a platform for discussion and collaboration between participating HEIs/TEIs and NCTE towards the preparedness/implementation of ITEP in line with NEP 2020.

Major objectives of the Consultative Meet

  • Familiarize the key functionaries of participating HEIs/TEIs towards preparedness/implementation of ITEP.
  • Collaborate with the participating HEIs/TEIs for the successful and effective implantation of ITEP.
  • Collective exercise of understanding and expanding of knowledge towards Centralized Admission Process, Model Curriculum Framework and Syllabi, Sharing of Document, Roadmap, Related Regulations, etc.
  • Deliberation upon the issues of the Teacher Education from the multiple perspective and to ensure bottom-up approach.

Ongoing Activities/ Information Sharing/ Handholding Sessions/ Way Forward

42 central/state institutions including IITs, NITs and RIEs for piloting ITEP granted recoginition for the academic session 2023-24.

Information sharing session on ITEP was conducted with the members of National Curriculum Frameworks oversight committee (NOC), chair and co-chair of core committee of ITEP, chair and co-chair of core committee of ITEP syllabi/course content development committee and representatives of MoE. AICTE, NETF, UGC, NCTE.

5 Information sharing sessions on ITEP aligned with NEP, 2020 were held at RIE Bhopal, Bhubneshwar, Mysore, NERIE Shillong and New Delhi, devoted to the sharing/exchange/hand holding on ITEP implementation, ITEP curriculum framework & Syllabi etc. for running the ITEP course from academic session 2023-24.

Handholding Sessions for individual Institutions are in progress.

Online applications were invited for the 2nd phase of pilot of ITEP from central/state institutions, Institution of Eminence, Institutions of national importance for the academic session 2024-25.
